Senator Harry Reid has made statements that are disloyal to our military and nation. His public statements against General Petraus should cause the people of Nevada to demand he retract his statements, apoligize to the military men and women fighting the war on terror, or recall him.

Majority Leader Reid: Out of Touch and Undermining TroopsNEW YORK - Vets for Freedom, a pro-mission veterans group dedicated to communicating America's strategy in Iraq, professes both confusion and outrage over recent comments made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Senator Reid arrogantly declared General Petraeus "out of touch" with what is going on in Baghdad, all the while-from the safety of Washington, DC-proclaiming his defeatist opinions, which undermine the war effort and embolden America's enemies. Three important facts color Senator Reid's absurd statement: 1) Senator Reid, the man who called General Petraeus "out of touch," voted to confirm him in January of 2007; 2) Senator Reid, the man who purports to be more "in touch" with events in Baghdad, hasn't been there since March of 2005; and 3) when Senator Reid came home from Iraq in March of 2005, he said ""I came away with the feeling we cannot leave Iraq. If we do, the terrorists will have won." "It sounds to me like Senator Reid is out of touch with himself (referring to his March, 2005 comments after visiting Iraq) and in perfect synch with left-leaning activist groups who have declared defeat in Iraq," says Pete Hegseth, Vets for Freedom Executive Director. Hegseth, an Iraq War veteran, goes on to say "While General Petraeus is busy in Baghdad doing everything possible to defeat Al Qaeda and marginalize militias in order to bring about success in Iraq, Senator Reid is hard at work doing everything he can to declare defeat and undermine American strategy. His words are the height of irresponsibility." Senator Reid made the disparaging remarks about General Petraeus during a conference call with liberal bloggers-an arena in which he surely felt comfortable sharing his true beliefs. Long professing to "support the troops" in public, Senator Reid feels very comfortable trashing them in private. It appears that Senator Reid wants the mission-as well as the troops-to fail. Vets for Freedom boasts an ever-growing network of veterans who believe in the need to defeat radical Islamist insurgents in Iraq. Below is a list of six such Vets for Freedom members who are available to discuss the Iraq war in any media forum. Please feel free to contact these combat veterans directly:

lThe war on terror has many "fronts"! America must wake up and have a world view of the threat and understand the importance of winning in Iraq and Afganistan, keeping pressure on in Somalia, the Mid East, Africa, and South and Central America. Last but not least, we must understand the immigration threat to the security in our own country. There is no room for people in our country who don't want to be "Americans". Here is a quote from Teddy Roosevelt.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in goodfaith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

"Certainly the question of right or wrong of American intervention in the conflict is one which now must take a back seat to the question of how to conduct the fighting so as to reach some satisfactory conclusion for the countries involved. This is the area in which I have voiced dissent and dissatisfaction with the Administration's present policy."
This is not a letter about Iraq, it was written July 10, 1967 by Senator Hatfield to then Captain Steve Altick (Serving as a fighter pilot in Vietnam) It shows the tragic parallel in the two conflicts, and the beginning of the loss of political will to seek victory; it is happening again. Senator Hatfield goes on to say; "Our soldiers in Vietnam are involved in serious actions and in my opinion their lives are much too precious to be wasted in a conflict that is not being properly conducted. This must be halted, of course, rapidly and honorably. I shall continue to criticize those in the Administration...."
This could be written today by Senator Hagel or others who advocate appeasement and surrender. I would remind them that we left Vietnam to be overrun by the north, thousands were killed in a war that could have been one with the right tactics and political will as early as 1965.

Memorial Day 2007
General Order No 11, Washington DC, May 5, 1868 -
General John Logan designated May 30th for the "purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country"......
We honor the war dead of our great nation, we need to honor those who serve on the front lines of our war on terror. Honor them with respect for their mission and support for our President and what he is trying to accomplish on behalf of future generations. We must wake up and understand the struggle we are in.
On behalf of Veterans who have fought,
Steve Altick, Lt Col, USAF (Ret)

We must keep in mind that going on the offense in Iraq will result in higher casualties, remember Vietnam's 57,000 casualties when you advocate coming home before the mission is done. Remember Tet 1968, a victory for us, but because of casualties began the loss of will in our nation for the mission and the victory. Wake up America!

A portion of a letter from a cadet who has it right....
I have a message for Senator Harry Reid, a message from the pastthat is heard in the wailing and groaning of our founders turning intheir graves:"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, andthen say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and ourposterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plough, and sow,and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us thedogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude thanthe animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not yourcounsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. Mayyour chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye wereour countrymen!" - Samuel Adams
Behold a man of virtue, worthy of the office Senator Reid disgraces.

A letter that all veterans should write.
April 23, 2007
Senator Harry Reid
Majority Leader
United States Senate
Dear Senator Reid,
As a veteran and patriotic American, I resent your comments about our Commander in Chief, the President of the United States. You have modeled a lack of civility that is unparalleled in our history for someone in your responsible position. You have opted for politics at all costs, and failed in following basic rules of manners and respect. If I lived in Nevada, I would do all in my power to recall you from your position. I do not believe you represent the vast majority of Americans. Sir, you should be ashamed and apologize to the people of this great nation and to our President.
