Troops were interviewed tonight, and you could see their contempt of our congress who presumes to know more than our national commanders, we must support them.
Sadly, the House of Representatives passed the "non-binding" resolution opposing the President's plan to reinforce troops in Iraq.
At no other time in American history has Congress made such a statement during time of war. As a retired service member and veteran of two wars I am deeply hurt and confused at this action.
The military's will to win and reason to fight on has been severely, perhaps mortally, wounded, in my opinion. Why should a volunteer military member risk himself or herself without full and unconditional support of the citizen's they have pledged to protect and if necessary to die for.
The Constitution prescribes for one and only one Commander-in-Chief, the President. The 535 members of Congress may have differing views but should not circumvent the President's constitutional authority and duty to conduct war.
The dangerous precedent set by passing this resolution will be, I believe, seen as a most severe failure of leadership by future generations.
The Senate has called for an emergency session tomorrow, 17 Feb, to consider the same issue.
My prayer is for God to forgive me for my allowing this mistake to come to fruition and to have mercy on America and to use me and every citizen to save our great nation from it's most threatening enemy - OURSELVES.
'Every skirmish on the home front that betrays a lack of solidarity on Iraq gives the insurgents more hope and ultimately endangers the men and women we have sent to Iraq to fight in this war for us. We are now committed to a favorable outcome in Iraq, but it must be understood that this will require long-term assistance or our efforts will be in vain.'
I am a concerned Veteran who served three tours as a fighter pilot in Vietnam. I am an evangelical Chistian who believes that a rebirth of faith in America is urgently needed. I am involved in Christian Camping where there is opportunity to rest, grow in faith, and work with youth as we prepare the next generation.
